La primera edici\u00f3 es va celebrar l&#8217;any 1927 i l&#8217;\u00faltima el 1957. L&#8217;edici\u00f3 de 1955 va ser guanyada pel Mercedes 300 SLR de l&#8217;equip oficial alemany pilotat per l&#8217;angl\u00e8s Stirling Moss i copilotat pel tamb\u00e9 brit\u00e0nic Denis Sargent Jenkinson, \u201cJenks\u201d. La d&#8217;aquest any, va ser la m\u00e9s r\u00e0pida mai celebrada ja que l&#8217;equip vencedor va emprar 10 hores a rec\u00f3rrer els 1.597 Km de dist\u00e0ncia a una mitjana de 157,650km\/h. Si Stirling Moss \u00e9s reconegut com un dels millors pilots de la hist\u00f2ria d&#8217;aquest esport, Denis Jenkinson, ex pilot de motociclisme i campi\u00f3 del m\u00f3n de sidecar com a passatger d&#8217;Eric Oliver en 1949, era a m\u00e9s un reconegut periodista especialitzat en aquest esport. El millor periodista d&#8217;aquest esport del seu temps i, segurament, el millor de tots els temps. En aquesta carrera, l&#8217;equip Moss-Jenkinson va posar a punt un sofisticat sistema de notes que van recollir durant tres mesos i diversos viatges a It\u00e0lia, recorrent l&#8217;itinerari de la carrera en tr\u00e0nsit obert. Aquestes notes s\u00f3n les precursores de les actuals notes dels copilots de Ral\u00b7li.
