- David Garrigolas / Jordi Boix (VW Golf GTI) have emerged as the winners of the XXI Rally Costa Brava Històric, a competition recognized as one of the most demanding and unpredictable editions in recent years. This year’s event was particularly challenging due to the unpredictable weather conditions and intense competition among the candidates for victory.
- Completing the podium alongside the winners were Kini Muntada / Jan Rosa (Porsche 911 Carrera) as well as Tere Armadans / Anna Vives (Porsche 911), who also were the first all-female team classified.
- The towns of Empuriabrava and Palamós hosted this thrilling event, showcasing the finest European historic motorsport. This year also marked the first edition with shared venues between these two iconic locations on the Costa Brava, which allowed for greater community engagement and excitement.
Satisfied, radiant, and euphoric—that’s how David Garrigolas and Jordi Boix felt this morning as they stepped onto the podium at the Passeig del Mar in Palamós, celebrating their win at the XXI Rally Costa Brava Històric. Their joy was well-deserved, as they won against 105 registered teams, in an exceptionally demanding edition with changing weather conditions that tested the drivers’ skills and the navigational abilities of the co-drivers.
In fact, until the very last of the 26 regularity stages and nearly 1,000 kilometers of the route had been covered, the outcome remained undecided. Once again, participants had the opportunity to experience one of the best regularity rallies for classic vehicles in Europe, which year after year attracts the top national and international specialists.
This twenty-first edition will be remembered for its unique shared venue between Empuriabrava and Palamós, a significant development that enhanced the rally’s accessibility, allowing many more spectators to witness this authentic museum on wheels.
The XXI Rally Costa Brava Històric once again stood out for its significant international participation, with 30% of the teams coming from abroad. It also highlighted the increasing presence of female competitors, within the framework of the #MotorDona initiative promoted by RallyClassics.
The event featured four female drivers, and 20% of the co-drivers were women. Once again, the Nenas Team formed by Tere Armadans and Anna Vives (Porsche 911) was the standout representative among the female teams, finishing in an impressive third overall position in the rally.
The rally attracted interest from teams coming from nearly a dozen European countries. Many of these teams arrived on the Costa Brava driving historic vehicles that delighted motorsport enthusiasts. In fact, over twenty vehicles participating in this edition were at least fifty years old. Spectators were treated to the sight of exceptional automobiles, including classic Renault 4/4, Mini Cooper, Lotus Elan and Volvo Amazon. Iconic rally cars such as the Renault 5, Porsche 911, Lancia Delta, BMW 2002, and Toyota Celica were also present, ensuring that everyone had the chance to appreciate these automotive treasures.
The festive and family-friendly atmosphere that always accompanies this rally was evident at every day’s start, with the first two days starting from Empuriabrava and the third from Palamós. Participants received a warm welcome from the large attending crowds and were able to enjoy various activities, including a popular parade through the streets of Castelló d’Empúries and Empuriabrava.
First Victory for the Catalans David Garrigolas and Jordi Boix
David Garrigolas and Jordi Boix have now entered the exclusive group of winners of this prestigious rally, achieving their victory by surpassing the third-place finish that the driver secured last year. This victory was far from easy, as the excitement remained palpable until the final kilometers of the race.
Their triumph was rooted in consistent performance throughout the three stages of the rally. The short stage on Thursday placed them firmly in the top positions, but it wasn’t until well into the long night of Friday’s stage that they began to create a gap and secure the lead. By Saturday, they completed the task with an almost flawless stage, maintaining their lead throughout all sections. This remarkable success is particularly noteworthy, considering it was the first Rally Costa Brava Històric for the co-driver.
Finishing just 25 points behind the winners—equivalent to a mere 25 seconds after nearly 500 kilometers of regularity and over 1,200 secret controls—were Kini Muntada and Jan Rosa (Porsche 911 Carrera), a team with an impressive international career.
Completing the podium were Tere Armadans and Anna Vives (Porsche 911), who fought valiantly to secure the #MotorDona trophy while maintaining their position among the leaders.
In motorcycles, Carles Fortuny and Carles Jiménez,well-known participants in this event, dominated the two-wheeled section without dispute in a year that proved particularly challenging. Once again, the four-time winners of the rally delivered an excellent performance, finishing within the top ten overall.
After an edition filled with competitiveness and a great atmosphere, the Club RallyClassics organizing team will soon begin the preparations for the twenty-second edition, scheduled for the last weekend of October 2025.
